It is a free event and all are welcome, please pass this on to anyone you think would be interested.
This is the Boston Society of Architects' 28th annual series of monthly design-related lectures. The series is co-sponsored by the Boston Public Library and is held in the Library's Rabb Lecture Hall in Copley Square.
Each presentation begins at 6:00 pm and is free and open to all.
Reservations are not required, but please arrive 15 minutes before the start time.
See http://www.architects.org/news/index.cfm?doc_id=60

For anyone unfamiliar with Ms. Carter's work, check out a speech she gave this past Oct: http://youtube.com/watch?v=NO6oY2qP4Ew

She has done incredible things in the South Bronx, turning abandoned and toxic water front into beautiful parks, starting a program that
trains youth and other community members to install roof gardens, and so much more. Right now, she is working to create an eco-industrial
park (ie: a collection of co-ops such as a center for recycled building materials) that would employ local community members. However, the City of New York wants to use the same piece of land to build a new prison instead.
If you work with youth, please encourage them to attend.

You are invited to take part in revitalizing the Dorchester Historical Society (DHS) Clapp Farmstead on Boston Street.
The DHS has received two grants — one from New England Grassroots Environment Fund for improving the landscaping and grounds around our historic buildings, and one from MA Cultural Facilities Fund for improving public use of the buildings themselves. These two coordinated projects will help guide much-needed improvements to the 19th c. William Clapp house and the 18th c. Lemuel Clap house plus old farm buildings at the DHS headquarters on Boston Street.
There will be regular meetings on Wednesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. for the next six months.
If you are interested in giving us your ideas, please contact Earl Taylor at 800-663-6063 or by e-mail at ERMMWWT@aol.com, or attend a meeting.

Details
Noam Chomsky has been a Bikes Not Bombs donor and member for more than 12 years, and he will be speaking as a benefit for Bikes Not Bombs. As the war stretches on in Iraq and threatens to spread into unending war in more countries, this is an important time to hear from Professor Chomsky, deepen our understanding of the workings of power, and consider how we can best work towards lasting peace and social justice.

Doors open at 6:00pm. Musical introduction by a Brass Quintet, doing American shape note and Bulgarian village harmonies. Noam Chomsky will speak followed by a question and answer period. Next will be a slideshow by Carl Kurz, founder of Bikes Not Bombs, giving an illustrated history of BNB's beginnings in war-torn Nicaragua, and an updated overview of BNB's international and youth work today.

NOTE: This event was rescheduled because of a blizzard in December. If you had tickets for that event, they are now relevant for the new date, or you can ask for a refund, or just make your earlier purchase a donation (but if you won't be using your previous ticket, let us know so we can give your seat to someone else!)
