Monday March 31 The Boys and Girl from County Clare 2003 (90 min) The All-Ireland Traditional Music Competition attracts the best musicians from all over the country -- and a few from beyond the shores of the Emerald Isle as well. As John Joe and his band prepare to capture the band trophy with their County Clare jigs and reels, Irishman Jimmy bends his Liverpudlians away from jazz toward the time-honored strains of Celtic music. As the musicians make their way towards the competition, trouble rears its head for both sets of challengers: the Liverpool Shamrock Ceilidh Band and the defending champions from Clare, and at the heart of this adversity lie the vengeful interventions of two estranged brothers, Jimmy and John Joe. The women in the documentary are members of 'Battered Women Fighting Back!' a grass-roots organization dedicated to exposing domestic violence as a critical human rights violation threatening the majority of the population: women and children. 'Battered Women Fighting Back!' began as a prison support group for battered women who had killed their abusers, and with the support of human rights activist, Stacey Kabat, developed into a community-based task force of over 100 volunteers. | ||

Two Million Minutes is a compelling new documentary film comparing the high school education experience in India, China and the United States . Created by entrepreneur & VC Bob Compton, the film takes the viewer into the homes, classrooms and hangouts of high school students in these three very different cultures. As we follow these high school seniors - a boy and a girl - from each of these countries,a snapshot of global education begins to materialize, from the viewpoint of kids preparing for their futures. One of the few constants we have in education is time – and approximately 2,000,000 minutes is how long each student has during high school. What the film shows is that students in India , China and the U.S. allocate those precious high school minutes quite differently. Not only does that allocation have implications for the individual's long term career prospects, it has profound implications for the U.S. economy over the next 30 years. High School students encouraged strongly to attend. Start: 6:30 pm

The Baltimore Oriole is a beautiful songbird which annually migrates to Massachusetts in early May. While they are not yet endangered, their numbers have been diminishing, and the Audobon Society is enlisting the aid of bird lovers and young scientists to count the birds that arrive. Learn how you can participate, and make an Oriole feeder to take home. Join Steve from the Blue Hills Trailside Museum/Audobon Society in this fascinating program “It’s a sin to kill a Mockingbird because all it does is sing.” So says Atticus Finch in the classic novel which takes its name from this sentiment. Draw a picture of the birds you learn about, write a small poem about birds, or write a letter to us about why you love birds. This program is in celebration Earth Day, and is also part of the Adams St. Branch’s series of programs, Mockingbird Lives!, a series in support of The Big Read of Eastern Massachusetts. The Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services designed to revitalize the role of literature in American culture and bring the transformative power of literature into the lives of its citizens. The Big Read brings together partners across the country to encourage citizens to read for pleasure and enlightenment. Start: 11:00 pm
