While they are not yet endangered, their numbers have been diminishing, and the Audobon Society is enlisting the aid of bird lovers and young scientists to count the birds that arrive. In celebration of Earth Week and Boston Shines DotBike is going for a ride around the neighborhood to check out some of Dorchester’s many parks and green spaces. The ride starts from the Giraffe Entrance of the Franklin Park Zoo at 12:30 p.m. and after a riding tour of Franklin Park we’ll head out of the park on an approximately 12 mile loop to hit various other green spaces. We’ll ride at a relaxed pace and leave no one behind and there will be several stops along the way. Helmets are required and riders under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. For over two centuries Second Church in Dorchester stands with its Steeple overlooking the neighborhoods of greater Boston. On April 26, 2008 at 3:00 pm the church celebrates its Lineage, Legacy and Leverage with a High Tea. The community is invited to attend. Second Church is located at the corner of Washington St and Talbot Ave in Codman Square. Presentations at the High Tea highlight the historical significance of Second Church in Dorchester by presenting: Snapshots of historical events, transitions and current occurrences in the process of revitalizing our community; Progress on the newly renovated Historical Room; “Project Angel Wings” – a collaboration of Boston Project Ministries, Boston Trinity Academy and Park Street Church’s Cross Walk together with Second Church plan for the reconstruction, restoration and revitalization of the Codman Cemetery; and, Second Church, its facility, its history and its legacy, as a national and historical gem. Dancing with the Stars is a gala fundraising event for Fields Corner Main Street where Boston celebrities are paired with professional dancers in a fun competition. There are several exciting volunteer positions available for this event and those who volunteer will be able to attend the event. There will be an orientation on Wednesday, April 23rd, 6:30 p.m. in the multi-purpose room at the Dorchester House Multi-Service Center. This is an opportunity for prospective volunteers to learn about the different positions available and to meet the staff.
