Fields Corner Main Street (FCMS) has filled its dance card with local celebrities for its biggest charity event ever, Dancing with the Stars of Boston, on Wednesday, June 4, 2008. Co-hosted by WCVB Channel 5’s mid-day newscast co-anchor Susan Wornick and WROR/WTKK radio veteran Hank Morse, the gala event will be held at the University of Massachusetts Boston student center on from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. A panel including Ernie Boch, Jr. and Improper Bostonian columnist Ezra Dyer will judge this year’s dancing stars.
Some of Boston’s brightest stars, including Miss Massachusetts/USA 2008 Jacqueline Bruno, WCVB’s Karen Holmes Ward, Massachusetts State Director of March of Dimes Ed Doherty, WHDH-TV NEWS7’s Dan Hausle and former Dorchester Board of Trade President Mary Truong from Caritas Carney Hospital, will be paired with professional dancers from Arthur Murray Dance Studios of Boston. With many hours of dedicated practice under their belts, these dance teams will be performing the cha cha, tango, and waltz, to name a few, in an effort to support FCMS’ revitalization efforts.

Mayor Menino will join Bowdoin-Geneva Main Streets, Bowdoin Street Health Center, BPD C-11, residents, sponsors, and elected officials in celebrating the 1st annual "Silver and Gold Senior Ball" at the Vietnamese American Community Center. The event will raise funds for the Bowdoin-Geneva Main Streets district along with fostering relationships with the elder friendly community. This is a social evening that is geared for our Senior Citizens. Attendees will partake of a sumptuous dinner, music and culminate with the crowning of the king and queen of the ball. We want this event to increase awareness of the positive work of Main Streets.

On December
28, 2007 at their three-family home on Bellevue Street in Dorchester
the Zizi celebrated Rebecca Zizi's ninth birthday, by all accounts it
was a joyous time. Little did the family know that in a few short
hours the family's fortunes would take a tragic & deadly turn. As
the family slept soundly in their home, a fire broke out and sadly
killed the birthday girl 9-year-old Rebecca Zizi and 11-year-old Rooben

Majors Challenge - the RBS Jack Nicklaus Majors Challenge is a
competition to find the golfer who can get closest tot he pin on a
simulates version on the 227 yard Par 3 16th hole at Torrey Pines South
Course. The winner of the competition staged over 5 days wins an all
espenses paid trip for two to Jack Nicklaus' home course in Florida and
a set of personally customized Nicklaus golf clubs.

inflatable RBS practice nets will enable attendees to try the latest
Nicklaus golf equipment during a free 10 minute golf lesson with a PGA

The 11th Annual Roxbury Pride Day Juneteenth Celebration will be held Saturday, June 21, 2008 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Franklin Park (rear of the Shattuck Hospital), Dorchester, MA. See photos of last year’s event by visiting www.thewordboston.com and clicking the Photo Gallery tab.
This is the celebreation to remember the emancipation proclamation issued on January 1, 1863. Slavery was finally abolished in the United States. Many African Americans in all parts of the United States will celebrate the liberation of their ancesters, called, "Juneteenty". Come out to the outdoor cookouts in Franklin Park and enjoy this peacful time of lanking arms with other people of color and everyone else to comemorate this historical celebration, which is a part of America's history.
