Trees for Dorchester!
Mayor Menino has announced a partnership that will increase the number of trees in the city of Boston. Grow Boston Greener (GBG) is a collaborative effort of the City of Boston and its partners in the Boston’s Urban Forest Coalition (BUFC) to increase the urban tree canopy cover in the city by planting 100,000 trees by 2020. Planting these trees will increase Boston’s tree canopy cover from 29% to 35% by 2030 as the planted trees mature. As part of the GBG campaign, 1,000 trees will be planted throughout Boston neighborhoods by end of April 2008. If you want a tree, email info@growbostongreener.org or call DEHC 617-474-1478.

Grow Boston Greener wants you!
Want to get involved in making Boston Greener?
With its ranking as the third Greenest city in America by Popular Science magazine Boston finds itself riding a wave of popular interest in the environmental sustainabilty of our urban areas.
You can help "turn Bean-town into Green-town" by participating in Grow Boston Greener. How?
- We are looking to engage volunteers in planting sites around the city.
- We need Tree Captains to organize their neighbors for Neighborhood planting events.
- Residents can get training in tree planting and tree care and receive a tree to plant in their own yards!
- Do you want a tree for the sidewalk in front of your house or an empty tree pit on your block? Let us know!
- If you have recently planted a tree, let us know and we'll include it in our tree count.
- Help us identify sites in Boston that could use a tree or two (or 30)!
If you have an interest in any of these activities please contact Gretchen Folk, GBG Interim Coordinator
