It’s a baby shower!   Mujeres Unidas en Acción is throwing a baby shower for mothers enrolled in our program in time for Mother’s Day.        At Mujeres Unidas en Acción (MUA), our mission is to help women to break the barriers that stand in the way of the social and economic growth of Latina women.  Our students are mainly single, low-income mothers, the majority of whom live in shelters, with children under the age of five.  MUA offers educational and social services, such as English and GED classes, to help mothers enter the workforce and build a better life for their families.  All services are free.   

     Every year we see a range of young pregnant mothers and mothers with newborns.  Our women and girls struggle to learn English and computers or obtain their diplomas so they can leave the shelter and find work.  They have no one with whom to celebrate their pregnancies or welcome their new babies.

     This year, MUA decided to throw a surprise (shhh!) baby shower for those in need.  Until May 2nd, we will be collecting the following items to create baskets and gift bags for the moms at our agency.  We are accepting drop-off donations for the following items:

Onesies (new)

Sleepers and socks (new)

Baby girl or baby boy clothing (new or gently used)

Rattles, pacifiers, teethers (new)

Infant bedding sets for girls or boys (new or gently used)

Diapers in Size Newborn through Size 5

Wipes

Bibs (new)

Bottles and feeding supplies (new)

Bath tubs (new)

Bathing and grooming supplies (new)

Receiving blankets (new)

Photo albums and scrapbooks for boys and girls

Picture frames

Gear (should be new or like-new condition.  We cannot accept used car seats). 

Infant and toddler-appropriate books (new or like new)

    Drop-off is available at the front desk in MUA’s reception area on the first floor Monday-Friday 9:00AM-2:00PM.  We are conveniently located down the street from the Field Corner T-stop on the Red Line, near St. Ambrose School.
