The Big Apple Circus combines international circus artistry with Broadway-style theater under a big top. It's a fun-filled arena of movement, rhythm, color, light and sound — reflecting the spirit that has long drawn the world's greatest artists to the emotional immediacy of the circus. Because no seat is more than 50 feet from the action, this is the perfect circus for young children.

Pop the cork, toss the confetti, and let the revelry begin - The Big Apple Circus is celebrating it's 30th anniversary with a brand new show called 'Celebrate!' under its famous Big Top tent. In the intimate, theatrical focus of the Big Apple Circus's single ring, the world's greatest performers are throwing a birthday bash - it's the Big Three-O, and you're invited!
There will be hula hoops on swingin hips, and flashy juggling wonders, capering dogs and high-prancing horses, soaring aerial acrobats, hilarious hi-jinks, amazing feats of stregth and agility - and no one sits more than 50 feet from ringside so you won't miss a thing.
The Big Apple Circus comes to Boston each year in spring. This years performance will be at City Hall Plaza. Check their website for specific schedules and venues. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster and at www.BosTixJr.org.
Big Apple Circus History:
Inspired in Europe, founded in America in 1977 by Paul Binder and Michael Christensen, the Big Apple Circus introduced American audiences to the intimate and interactive environment of a one-ring circus under the Big Top.
The Big Apple Circus is more than just a circus. Each performance is rooted in tradition, but the commitment to kids and families is a vision truly their own. Classical Circus all began in 1770, when Philip Astley combined equestrian showmanship, acrobats and jugglers into a one-ring show. The circus began in 1977, with the vision and passion of our co-founders Paul Binder and Michael Christensen. That vision is still the beating heart of the Big Apple Circus, making us who they are, and guiding all they have done in their Brief History.
The Brief History starts in Kent, England, 1974, where American entertainers and Big Apple Circus co-founders Paul Binder and Michael Christensen crafted a comedic juggling act that over the next 18 months they took to the street corners all over Europe. In 1976, after a season with Annie Fratellini's one-ring Nouveau Cirque de Paris that changed their lives, they returned home to America. One year later they created what would become a world-renowned performing arts organization, which has entertained millions of people across the country, and become a leader in premium family entertainment.
Since then Paul and Michael have worked hard to bring national audiences the intimate and interactive environment of a one-ring circus under a Big Top tent, and take the magic of circus outside the ring to children in need.

Tickets range in price from $15 to $62 for weekend and weekday evening shows, and from $20 to $26 for 11 AM weekday matinees. Premium seating for $100 is available for Saturday, Sunday and all Patriots Week (4/22 – 4/25) shows. Full-price advance tickets may also be purchased in person at BOSTIX (two locations, Faneuil Hall Marketplace and Copley Square); hours are 10 AM to 6 PM Tuesday through Saturday, and 11 AM to 4 PM Sunday. Tickets may also be purchased at the Community Box Office in the lobby of Boston Children’s Museum from 11 AM to 2 PM daily; there is a $1 per ticket service charge.
