Uniting Diverse Individuals and Groups

SCI Dorchester collaborates with other community groups to plan community events and projects that bring people together. We also convene groups and individuals to explore common issues of concern and interest.

Tour of the Parks:
"Good Night, good night! Parting is such sweet sorrow, That I shall say good night till it be morrow." You probably remember these famous words from one of William Shakespeare's most famous plays, Romeo and Juliet. This summer, SCI Dorchester, Dorchester House Multi- Service Center and Friends of Ronan Park teamed up to bring the Tour of the Parks production of Romeo and Juliet to the Dorchester community on Sunday, July 31, 2005 in Ronan Park.

As an educational component, youth workshop leaders coordinated community workshops to teach community members more about the play and performance. These workshops for all ages created awareness and appreciation of the play and the performance. Each workshop featured information and activities designed to give those new to Shakespeare insight into the history, culture and language of Shakespeare. Special attention was focused on the plot and characters of Romeo & Juliet, including an abbreviated participant-performed play. Performance Guide be handed out at the end of each workshop. For more information about the community workshops that SCI Dorchester is running, send an email to rsvp@scidorchester.org.

This summer's Tour of the Parks production of Romeo and Juliet ran 75 minutes and featured talented actors in the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company's Apprentice Company. Directed by Saheem Ali, each performance ended with a Question and Answer session with the actors led by Vincent Siders, Boston's very own award-winning actor/director. Neighbor to Neighbor Initiative:
Our neighbor-to-neighbor initiative will help to connect neighbors with each other. This initiative kicked-off on National Neighborhood Day on Sept. 11th. Check back soon for more information. If you have any suggestions as to how SCI Dorchester can best unite diverse individuals and groups, you can e-mail the planning coordinator, Marisa Coleman.
