Generations Incorporated: Volunteer Opportunities for Active Older Adults!

Generations Incorporated unites active older adults and youth in
partnership to strengthen individuals and communities in the Greater Boston area. We do this through direct, sustainable community-based programs that increase children’s literacy skills. Our programs generate strong mentoring relationships between active older adults like you and students that get results and make a difference in both of your lives.

Your time and experience will have an impact and you will make a
difference! Last year, 95% of Generations Incorporated volunteers reported that their time in the classroom was “very satisfying.”

By working with a child, you will build a strong relationship where
both of you will grow. According to a study through Johns Hopkins, active older adults who volunteer in troubled urban schools not only improve the educational experience of children, but realize meaningful improvements in their own mental and physical health.

"While our results are preliminary, what we found is a 'win-win'
for everyone involved," says the study's lead author, Linda P. Fried,
M.D., director of the Center on Aging and Health at Johns Hopkins. "Giving back to your community may slow the aging process in ways that lead to a higher quality of life in active older adults."

As a volunteer with Generations Incorporated, you will also be part of
a highly acclaimed national service program called Experience Corps.
