Over
400 youth from around Boston
will be coming together on Friday August 22 at English
High School
from 6 to 9 pm to explore the issues impacting Boston
youth, and what we can do about it. Called “Reach One, Teach One”, this
celebration and show is designed to motivate you to create change. It is
an original multi-arts stage show created and performed by the youth of the Opportunity for Unity
Collaborative, representing Youth Force, Close to Home, BOLD Teens, REEP, and
Teen Empowerment.

This
event is free!!. We hope that you will be able to support our project
and attend this event.

UU Urban Ministry Summer Program Peace Event

We are the Peace Makers of the UU Urban Ministry's Summer Employment Program, and we invite you to come to our Peace Event on Wednesday, August 13, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. This event is for all ages, so if you have kids, bring them, too.

The event features:

-- Performances, including "Two Left Feet"

-- Basketball tournament

-- Free food

-- Booths with information about several different community organizations

-- Activities for children, such as the Musical Chairs Championship.

Unity Rally for Children Left Behind

Wednesday, May 21, 3:00 p.m.

Grand Staircase, MA State House

WHY: Let state lawmakers know that education reform efforts aren’t working! Instead of focusing only on testing for proficiency in a few subjects, education reform should also focus on raising graduation rates, making sure all public schools have equal and adequate resources, and using lots of ways to evaluate student and school progress- not just one test.

WHO: Youth, teachers, parents, elected officials and everyone else who cares about public education throughout MA are invited to attend. We expect over 500 people. The MA Teachers Association, Boston Teachers Union, Citizens for Public Schools, American Civil Liberties Union, Boston Student Advisory Council, FairTest and The Center for Teen Empowerment are co-hosting the rally.

WHAT: Show the governor and legislature that youth do care about education! Let’s raise the awareness of policy makers about the unintended effects of school reform, like the high dropout rates in urban schools and the achievement gap between urban and suburban students. The rally will include speeches by youth and adults about their personal experiences with educational policies. Bring signs and posters if you want and be ready to sign our giant diploma asking the governor for better schools. read more »

The 84 Art Exhbit

The DotWell Teen Center will host an art exhibit on Sat., May 10th in the Dorchester House gym from 10-1pm. Eighty-four projects will be on display representing why teens are a part of The 84, the percentage of teens in MA who do not use tobacco. Come view this one-day exhibit focused on promoting the postive things teens choose to do instead of smoking.

Art supplies will be available in the rear kitchen of Dorchester House for teens ages 13-19 from 2-6pm during school vacation for teens to create projects representing why do not use tobacco and are members of The 84. The DotWell Teen Center received a grant to promote The 84, which consists of 84% of MA teens do not smoke, and they hope to acquire 84 projects for The 84 Art Exhibit, to be held Saturday, May 10th from 10am-1pm in the Dorchester House gym.

The Camille Cosby Girls Program will offer a free one-day conference on Tuesday, April 22 during the Boston Public School spring vacation for girls ages 11-14 to learn about nutrition, physical fitness, relationships, and healthy, active alternatives to electronic media.
