Forest Hills Lantern Festival

Description:

Forest Hills Lantern Festival
Thursday, July 12th from 6 to 9 pm

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Volunteers Wanted!
We need your help to make the 9th annual Forest Hills Lantern Festival a success! Join us on July 12th for the Buddhist-inspired memorial celebration held at the historic Forest Hills Cemetery in Jamaica Plain.

Thousands of people will inscribe paper lanterns with personal messages to family and friends who have passed away. At sunset, the candlelit lanterns are released onto Lake Hibiscus, symbolizing the soul's journey after death. The lantern lighting and floating ceremony takes place after a program of traditional Japanese music and dance.
Volunteers are needed for various tasks, including stage manager's assistants, greeters, crowd-control, survey-takers, and Japanese or Chinese calligraphers. Adults and teens, solo volunteers and groups are all welcome and we happily write community service letters for students. In return for their assistance, each volunteer will receive a paper shade to decorate, compliments of Forest Hills Educational Trust. read more »
