Join the Boston Children’s Chorus (BCC) as they ring in the holiday season with a special performance at the Macy’s Tree Lighting in Downtown Crossing. The BCC is an accomplished children’s singing group with nine choirs and 300 singers ranging from ages seven to eighteen years old. BCC has performed at the Democratic National Convention, Governor Deval Patrick’s Inauguration, and with the Boston Pops.

This coming January 19, 2009, BCC will be performing at their nationally televised annual signature Martin Luther King concert with Special Guest Lou Gossett Jr. at Jordan Hall at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. Boston's Faneuil Hall Marketplace gets into the holiday spirit with this noisy annual concert. Over 200 tubas perform popular seasonal songs in an attempt to convince visitors to wander over to the Marketplace. This year is Cultural Survival's 30th Annual Winter Bazaar Series. The Cultural Survival Bazaars are the biggest international craft & art fair in America. These are free-admission events offering attendees the unique opportunity to shop fairly traded items, handmade by indigenous peoples in Africa, Asia, and the Americas.

At the Cultural Survival Bazaars, every gift has a story to tell. Meet many of the artisans who make the crafts, learn about them, the craft-making process, and their cultural communities. Saturday, December 6th, 11am-1:30pm, $15. As part of the upcoming holiday season, Discover
Roxbury will be conducting its annual shopping tour. This year’s tour is called the Independent(Holiday) Spirit. With the economic crisis continuing to deepen, Discover Roxbury is doing its part to help small businesses and community artists survive.

This year’s tour will visit Jamaicaway Books (www.jamaicawaybooks.com) and the Nature's Gems exhibit at the Franklin Park Clubhouse (www.franklinparkcoalition.org).

Jamaicaway Books is New England's only multicultural bookstore. 2008 marks its 10th
anniversary of creating a nurturing environment that celebrates the creativeness of different cultures around the world through a love of books. December 6 is the first day of the Franklin Park Coalition’s second annual Nature’s Gems exhibition.

The show features a diverse collection of artists from Emerald Necklace communities. Curated by Ekua Holmes and Brenda Atchison, the exhibit will showcase returning and new artists using a variety of media to celebrate nature.

Additionally, Haley House Café will provide participants with a free hot beverage, with the
purchase of any sandwich, upon the tour’s return to Dudley Square. Participants will also be provided with a shopping map of Dudley Square and have the opportunity to peruse Dudley Square businesses at their own leisure, including ACT Roxbury’s holiday art bazaar.

Limit 15 people. $15. Advance ticket purchase required on the Discover Roxbury website
(www.discoverroxbury.org). Van departs Haley House Café, 12 Dade St, Dudley Square at 11am.

On Friday, December 5, St. Ann’s Parish will be hosting the 26th Annual $10,000 Dinner at
Florian Hall. Net proceeds from the evening support St. Ann’s Parish Youth Programs. In
the last few years, this event has been hosted by St. Ann School but years ago it was a
St. Ann Parish event so the circle continues.

For all the veterans, you know it is a fun-filled evening of food, friends, song and dance in
anticipation of winning $10,000 (or splitting it with your newest and dearest friends in the
final 10)!

Only 200 ticketed numbers are available - making the odds very good in your favor. If you
purchased a number in the past, your special number is still being reserved and you will
receive a call from an event committee member within the next week.

We are reserving a batch of numbered tickets for new guests. If you, or someone you know,
are interested in one or more of these reserved numbers, please call us as soon as possible.
Availability is based on a first-come, first-serve basis so don’t delay!

The cost of a numbered ticket has not increased and remains at $150 which includes dinner
and having your special number in the drawing for $10,000 grand prize. Additional “Spouse/
Friend” dinner guest tickets are available for only $40. Tickets go on sale now so as not to
interfere with your Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday expenses.

Even if you are unable to attend, you can still purchase a Numbered Ticket and we will assign
someone to represent your interests on December 5th.

Book Signing: "Out on a Limb" with Dianne Van der Meer-Kelley

This Thursday, there will be a book signing at the DotWell Tech Center with local Pastor Dianne Van der Meer. Early reviews
have given the book much praise as the release date has neared. "Out on a Limb with No Place to Hide offers
a fresh, insightful perspective on being a woman in ministry from the
voice of one nurtured in the Caribbean culture of her native Trinidad,"
exclaimed Harvard University Professor Charles Ogletree.

The Bay State Banner placed the book signing on their Event Calendar.
The event will be held at the Dotwell Tech Center on 450 Washington
Street in Dorchester, 5:30 start time. Refreshments will be provided
for members of the press.

Details: This program will be held at the First Parish Church, Meeting House Hill. Janet Bush will speak about Thaddeus Mason Harris, the minister of First Parish Church in Dorchester from 1795 to 1836. He served during the years in which the newly born United States began to grow up, and Unitarianism became a separate faith. Harris was also a Mason and one of the foremost advocates of freemasonry during the early part of the 19th century.

The talk will provide an overview of Harris’s life and contributions to Dorchester and the greater Boston community. Ms. Bush will speak about Dorchester’s role in the Unitarian controversy and about the importance of, and controversies around, the Masonic movement in our early history. read more »
